PostSubject: What D&D 4th Lacks yet Needs   Thu Aug 28, 2008 12:34 am

I.E. Ways we can capitalize on what players want but don't currently have?

1. Epic Destinies for fighter-types. Currently all the epic destinies except for Eternal Seeker (and possibly Demigod, though that's divine-ish) are meant for certain types of character archetypes, and the fighter and its ilk sort of get left out. I'm thinking some sort of King Arthur-ish "epic leader of men" sort of destiny. It'd be great for all the characters that have that sort of leadership-- fighters, paladins, and warlords.

2. Monk. Yeah, the monk is coming, but its still a long way off and we could supply our own version of the class. It'd be smart to come up with a different name though so when the official Monk is released, our class is still a playable one right alongside it.

3. Dragoon? Seems to be a popular concept, yet WotC may never release an official class (or paragon path?) for it. We could pick it up.

4. Familiars. Of course, since pets will be in Martial Power, there's a good chance Familiars will be in Arcane Power.

5. Final Fantasy-esque stuff? FF is a popular video game series and we could try to implement some FF-inspired things as 4th edition material. We could even release it under Lancewrath's "Last Legacy" setting.

Any other ideas?

Hope you don't mind if I post some of what you said via IM, Aluman, to keep our ideas in one spot:

[02:44] Twice in a Lifetime, Once is Never Enough: A reasonable pet and army summoner that don't violate too many of the sub sets of 4E rules.

[02:45] AshTheDriver: i was thinking of working on a Brawler class. something that could obviously placate people who want a Monk and don't want to wait, but it could also be a viable class alongside the Monk once the Monk is released
[02:46] AshTheDriver: what do you think?
[02:47] Twice in a Lifetime, Once is Never Enough: I think it coudl work, I wouldn't mind doing a book alternative classes for each power source.
[02:47] Twice in a Lifetime, Once is Never Enough: An archer style martial-controller.
[02:47] Twice in a Lifetime, Once is Never Enough: A divine striker
[02:48] Twice in a Lifetime, Once is Never Enough: An alternative to Swordmage for arcane defender, one who defends not by being between them, but placing shields around allies or osmething similar.

Oo! How about Engineering, and make it work like Rituals and Alchemy?

A swashbuckler type class, particularly one that specializes in fighting with one free hand, or at least some feats that encourage fighting with a free hand and a light blade.

Cavalier? (Maybe as a Paragon Path.)

Crusader? I don't think this will be in PHB2, as it doesn't fit the clues given, so we could capitalize on that. It could also be a Paragon Path for paladins/clerics. Otherwise it could be our divine striker.

I think engerineering would be a good idea, and mass combat. Like non-squad level or brigade. But say 10K v 20K soliders. Its doable with 4e using swarms and minions.

Crusader should be a divine something, I lean to striker (I was using Templar for my mock up of one).

There aren't very many artifacts in the DMG. We could create a few of our own, as well as some magic items.

A Sage. An arcane caster with Leader-ish powers built in, and the most important attributes being Int and Wis.

How about a list of beings that create Warlock pacts their alignment, and what their agenda from Warlocks are. Maybe tied into expanded pact boons for selecting one or another with penalties (like evil acts for infernal locks)
