Xen's Backstory

Xen was the third child of a ranger, his mother passed during his birth, leaving his father forever heart broken. Xen did train under his father for a time around his twentith year, serving with him scouting orc encampments, It was here the first whispers of the Erlking entered his ears, like a pesky mosiquito. Xen talked to his father, Valroon, about the incident, but Val dismissed it assuming it to be a little boy's fanicful imagination.

In his thritith year, Xen ...

Some Mathmatical Outputs

This is mostly for me to know, and have a place I can referance, in particular due to this thread as it got me thinking about the impact of 1 and 1 (hit and damage) of having an 18 or 16 (or 20/18 which ever).

So start at 10% and working up with 10 damage (15% at 11 damage)

.1*10 = 1

.15*11 = 1.65 (increase of .65)

.2*10 = 2

.25*11 = 2.75 (increase of .75)

.3*10 = 3

.35*11 = 3.85 (increase of .85)

.4*10 = 4

.45*11 = 4.95 (increase of .95)

.5*10 = 5

.55*11 ...

Stats/Attributes

Although it's possible to create an RPG without stats, or rather "attributes" as most RPGs call them (D&D being a notable exception in calling them "ability scores"), I think it would be more intuitive (as well as easier) if we included attributes in our system.

But what attributes should those be?

D&D offers the classic Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma. GURPS offers only four: Strength, Dexterity, Health, and IQ. (I've ...

Classes and Levels

One of the primary reasons I wanted to develop a distinct system was to kill classes. I.e. you should be able to make any character concept you can think of. This naturally leads to a point-based character creation system.

Here's a concept I had for the game. It's default assumption is that you use "levels" to progress player characters, but the core mechanics of the game actually don't use levels. Levels are basically an elaborate, assumed houserule (to keep balance) but internally ...

Rolling 2d20 a bunch

So I just tried rolling 2d20 (40 times) and these were my results:

5, 7, 9, 10, 10, 12, 13, 13, 14, 14, 15, 15, 16, 16, 17, 18, 20, 20, 21, 21, 21, 21, 21, 22, 22, 22, 23, 23, 25, 25, 25, 26, 26, 26, 28, 28, 29, 34, 37, 38

So if that means anything to anyone, there you have it. My playtest results.

Some notes: sometimes time can drag as you add up the results. D&D's d20 system doesn't have this problem.

Forum Layout

Any ideas on how we should do the forum layout?

Something to consider: Should we make this entire forum-site invisible to the public eye, or just a "designer's section?"

I.e. should we keep this forum for the game system once we have it completed or nearly-completed, and a website up and running?
